ABOUT
Asma Elbadawi is a British Sudanese spoken word poet, Basketball Player and Sports Inclusivity Activist. with a BA Hons In Photography, Video and Digital Image and a masters in Visual Arts.
She is best known for being the Leeds winner of the Words First, A national poetry competition partnered by BBC Radio 1Xtra and the Roundhouse and her involvement in the successful #FibaAllowHijab campaign that fought to allow Muslim women to compete while wearing the hijab in professional basketball.
Elbadawi has taken part in both national and international literary festivals and events, such as TEDx, Manchester and Bradford Lit Festival, Iskarnival Festival (Malaysia), European arts Forum (Brussels) and African Women in Sports conference ( Botswana) and has been featured in major Media outlets such as Vogue Arabia, Cosmopolitan, Hello Magazine, BBC Sport, CNN, BBC Iplayer, AJ+, Aljazeera, S24, Channel 4, Buzzfeed and more.
