Born in Gaza in 1999, Malak Mattar began her art career during the conflict of Operation Protective Edge in 2014. Despite growing up under occupation and siege, she has gained international recognition for her work. Mattar won a scholarship to study political science in Istanbul and later completed a Masters of Fine Art in London. Her art underwent a significant transformation when she moved to the UK, where she documented the genocide in Gaza through monochrome drawings and paintings. One of her notable works, ‘No Words’, depicts the horrors of displacement and atrocities faced by Palestinians. Mattar is also a bestselling author of children’s books and has lectured at universities in the USA. She has held solo exhibitions around the world and recently exhibited her work in London, including ‘No Words’. Her art is acclaimed for its powerful portrayal of the Palestinian experience.
